Beans for toddler activities!

We have been using beans a lot around here for activities. It is quite funny how it came to be. We have been eating tacos almost once a week because it is an easy, quick, cheap meal, that everyone including both P and N enjoy.  When I make tacos I also make Spanish rice and black beans. I usually buy cans of beans put have recently started buying dry beans since they are a bigger bang for your buck… little did I know having dry beans on hand will lead to tons of toddler fun!

Last week on taco night, Noah refused to eat his beans. Instead he carefully placed each on in a line on his tray and attempted to count them. Light bulb! This was the start to beans being a part of recent activities around here!

Since then we have done a number of learning activities and crafts and I think beans might be their new favorite toy!

Activity 1: Counting

Simply give them a bag of beans for counting. I think large lima beans work best.

Activity 2: ABC beans

Label large lima beans with abcs. My 2 year old twins loved this!

Activity 3: Bean Art

I did some counting activities with glue dots for them to place one bean on each dot.

And we used glue to draw the first letter of our name a glue beans down.

Easy, cheap, fun, learning, and entertainment! Can’t beat that!
